Iain Black is Vice President of Wafer Fab Operations for EMCORE Corporation, joining in May of 2017. Mr. Black has 30 years of semiconductor industry experience, the last 17 in compound semiconductors serving the RF and LED industries. He joins EMCORE after 8 years with Philips Lumileds, a leading LED manufacturer, where he served as General Manager of U.S. Operations and Vice President of Worldwide Manufacturing Engineering. Mr. Black established an LED solutions business for the Illumination market driving the world’s first production 150 mm LED manufacturing operation. Prior to Lumileds, Mr. Black worked for 8 years in the RF industry with Anadigics, managing Wafer Fab Engineering and Operations through the rapid expansion of the mobile market, including directing supply chain and the construction of a Wafer Fab facility in mainland China. Mr. Black has a BSc in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from the University of Dundee in Scotland. He served 5 years as Co-Chair of the SEMI standards committee for LED and on the National Academy Committee for the assessment of Solid State Lighting.
Dr. Hank Blauvelt was appointed Chief Technology Officer of EMCORE Corporation in January 2015. Dr. Blauvelt joined EMCORE in December 2007 as Chief Scientist with principal responsibility for the development of technologies for linear fiber optic applications. Prior to joining EMCORE, Dr. Blauvelt was Chief Technology Officer for Xponent from October 2001 until 2007. He was employed by Ortel Corporation between 1985 and 2000, when the company was acquired by Lucent Technologies. Dr. Blauvelt distinguished himself by important contributions in the design of optical transmitters and receivers for transmission of CATV signals over fiberoptic links and was the principal inventor on the Ortel patents related to reducing noise and distortion in the links. In 1992 he was promoted to Vice President of Fiber Optics Technology at Ortel, and after Ortel's acquisition, Dr. Blauvelt was named Chief Technologist for Optical Access Products at Lucent Technologies/Agere Systems. Dr. Blauvelt received his B.S. in Applied Physics from Cornell University and earned his Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Caltech. He has been awarded more than 60 U.S. patents.
Marc Cavagnolo joined EMCORE Corporation in November 2016 as Vice President of Corporate Development, focused on mergers and acquisitions, corporate strategy, and strategic partnerships. Before joining EMCORE, Mr. Cavagnolo was Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis at Jet Edge International, a market leader in Gulfstream jet management and charter services where he implemented systems for real-time performance tracking, forecasting, and financial decision-making. Prior to Jet Edge, Mr. Cavagnolo held Manager and Director of Corporate Development positions at Xilinx, Inc (XLNX) and Marvell Technology Group (MRVL), respectively, leading acquisitions, divestitures, corporate venture capital investments, and portfolio strategy. Mr. Cavagnolo holds a Masters of Business Administration in Strategic Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelors of Arts from Pomona College.
David Faulkner is Vice President and General Manager of Aerospace & Defense for EMCORE Corporation, joining February of 2017. Prior to taking this position, Mr. Faulkner was President of the Engineering and Manufacturing Division of Kellstrom Defense, an aftermarket provider in the aerospace defense market. Previously, he held various positions in program management and technical leadership at ATK, most notably as the Program Manager for Development on the AGM-88E (AARGM) air-to-ground missile, leading the Block II upgrade program and other derivatives. Earlier in his career, he worked for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in their famed Skunk Works division in the areas of system engineering and design engineering helping win an over $100M demonstration contract on DARPA’s FALCON hypersonic program. Mr. Faulkner received both his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Oklahoma.
Janet Liu was appointed EMCORE’s Vice President of Quality and Organization Performance in 2016. Ms. Liu joined EMCORE China in 2013 as Senior Director of Manufacturing Quality and has been leading EMCORE’s quality and reliability programs since 2014. Prior to joining EMCORE, Ms. Liu worked for various business units at Motorola for 20 years, holding a variety of management positions including Senior Director of New Product Launches, Customer Quality Director and Master Black Belt for the Greater China region. Ms. Liu was certified as a Motorola Black Belt in 1998 and a Master Black Belt in 2000. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Optical Physics from Shandong University in China and a Master of Science degree in Applied Mathematics in Statistics from New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Shane Mortazavi joined EMCORE as Vice President of Global Assembly Operations in June of 2015. Mr. Mortazavi has over 25 years of leadership in manufacturing operations and supply chain management for leading global technology firms with operations and P&L responsibility in the electronics, aerospace, automotive, oil & gas and telecommunications industries. From 2000 to 2013 Mr. Mortazavi served as Vice President of Operations for STEC, Inc., a leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of high-end solid state drives, and flash and DRAM memory for telecommunications, storage, military and medical systems where he led projects in setting up manufacturing plants in South East Asia and establishing EMS engagements. Prior to that, he served as Manufacturing Operations Manager for General Monitors, Inc., a designer, manufacturer and marketer of electronic UV/IR instrumentation and safety systems for the oil and gas industry. Mr. Mortazavi received his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and his Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering & Operations Research from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a Certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt and CPIM practitioner.
Gyo Shinozaki is the Vice President of Marketing of EMCORE Corporation. Prior to joining EMCORE, Mr. Shinozaki held Senior Management positions at Hochiki America, a subsidiary of Hochiki Corporation of Tokyo, Japan, a world leader and innovator of in-building security and communications systems. With EMCORE, and previously with Ortel Corporation, Mr. Shinozaki has held various Product Management positions and was promoted to Director of Marketing for EMCORE in 2007. In 2015, he was appointed Vice President of Marketing and oversees all aspects of product marketing and marketing communications. Mr. Shinozaki holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and an MBA from the Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine.
Dr. Kou-Wei Wang is Vice President and General Manager of Optical Semiconductors for EMCORE Corporation, joining in August of 2017. Dr. Wang has more than 30 years of successful experience in optoelectronic components for optical communications. Dr. Wang started his career with AT&T Bell Labs in 1985, and from 1997 to 2002, Dr. Wang lead the undersea component development efforts for Lucent Technologies and Agere Systems. From 2007 to 2013, Dr. Wang served as Vice President and General Manager for CyOptics, Inc., growing them into the prime supplier of optical components for the Asia market. From 2013 to 2017, Dr. Wang served as Marketing and Product Development Director for the Fiber Optical Products Divisions of Avago and Broadcom. Dr. Wang receives his Bachelor Degree from National Taiwan University, and Ph.D. from University of Southern California, both in Electrical Engineering.
Dr. Genzao Zhang is EMCORE’s Vice President of Engineering, appointed in April 2010. Dr. Zhang has a long track record of success within EMCORE’s engineering organization, holding various Senior Management positions since joining the company in 2004. Prior to joining EMCORE, Dr. Zhang spent three years as Canada Division GM and Senior Director of 10G/40G Optical Transportation Subsystems R&D at Redclover Networks. From 1993 to 2001, Dr. Zhang served as R&D Program Manager and Senior Systems Architect for 2G/3G Wireless Communication Systems and 10G/40G Optical Transposition Technology at Bell North Research (BNR), previously Nortel’s R&D unit, and with Nortel Networks. Dr. Zhang received his Master of Science degree from Xian Jiao-Tong University, China, and Ph.D. from University of Ottawa, Canada, both in Electrical Engineering. He has published over fifteen technical papers and holds twenty patents in the areas of wireless and fiber optical communications systems.
