EMCORE News Conference

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - July 13, 2010 - Emcore thanks the first responders for their rapid response to the tragic shooting that occurred yesterday at our southeast Albuquerque, NM plant. We specifically thank the local police, city employees, fire department and most of all our employees at Emcore.

We acknowledge the courageous efforts of many Emcore employees who saved and assisted their colleagues in yesterday's tragedy.

Some misunderstandings need to be clarified about yesterday's incident.

Robert Reza was a former employee of Emcore. He was never fired. Mr. Reza was hired in October 2006 and filed for medical leave in March 2009. He returned to Emcore on June 2009 and resigned approximately a month later due to medical reasons.

Emcore is taking action to ensure that the needs of the victim's families are met and addressed. The company is extending the salaries and benefits of the families of the victims for a full year, including covering all of the funeral arrangements for the victims' families. In addition, we are establishing a memorial fund for victims at Bank of America branches for those in the community who have expressed a desire to donate to the Emcore Memorial Fund.

Emcore has received an outpour of support from the community and we thank everyone for their kind words and encouragement.

This was a domestic violence incident that unfortunately ended at our facility impacting a great number of people. It is not a reflection of our employees or our workplace and we appreciate you for respecting employee privacy as we all cope with and recover from this incident.

The Albuquerque facility will be closed for the next two days and reopen on Thursday. During and after this time, we will continue to provide grief counseling for all our employees indefinitely.
